Student Ministry

ABOUT

Dalewood United Methodist Church started our student ministry with Stratford Stem Magnet School in the fall of 2017, with a mission to feed the Stratford football team before home games. This soon became the central community ministerial focus at Dalewood. Since that time, we have decided to continue our Stratford ministry throughout the year. We now feed not only the football team, but the basketball and baseball teams, and the cheerleaders, and the Junior Varsity squads of each as well. In serving these teams, we soon realized the demand was even greater than we really anticipated — many young people had insufficient food resources, not just student-athletes. By the end of Spring 2017, we were often serving upwards of 110 students at a time. We have established a Food Pantry to further expand this effort. Our initial connection with the Stratford community — our community — has blossomed into something bigger: a true partnership with the school. At the beginning of this ministry, one thing we heard repeatedly from both Stratford students and administrators was the importance of sticking around, and of consistency — of being a church and a people that these young people can count on to be there, in good times and bad. We plan to do just that, and we invite you to join us. We are humbly requesting a donation of food to help feed 60 or so young people. Something simple, and low cost, like chicken, hot dogs or hamburgers, would be great! We hope you will consider assisting them, and us, by lending a helping hand, or, if you prefer, you can make a monetary donation by using the QR code below.

Tyler “Tank” Holt Scholarship Fund Tyler

Tyler “Tank” Holt

“Tank” Holt was a loved member of Dalewood Student Ministry where he was baptized in 2019 and a beloved classmate at Stratford Stem Magnet High School. Tyler was known for his goofy personality- you always had to be ready to take a joke from him, he loved playing football, and loved him some food- especially hot wings. Tyler had a dream to go to college and was set to attend Bethel University where he wanted to study and play football. Unfortunately, Tyler was taken from us too soon. We lost Tyler to gun violence on November 21, 2020. We want all students to have an opportunity to live out their dreams and succeed in college just as Tyler was hoping to do. We are hoping this scholarship helps future students fulfill their dreams.

We will be expanding this important ministry by adding East Nashville Magnet High School beginning with the 2022-23 school year.
